True Meaning of Christmas
Beck, Ash and I were at the local Taco Bell getting some grub last night. Beck pointed out this homeless guy just sitting with a soda in the corner. He was sitting there stinking up the joint and just minding his own business. Beck mentioned that she had seen him wandering around the drug store around the corner last week. Man, I felt bad walking out of there feeling like I was about to explode.
Beck and I decided to ask him if he was hungry. His eyes lit up like a little kid on Christmas morning. I think he is hard of hearing but he managed to let me know that he wanted 5 bean burritos and an enchurito. I ordered a burrito supreme and 4 beans burritos with his enchurito. I think I made this guys week for only $8. He tried to give me a dollar that he had...I wouldn't have any of that! He made my Christmas season. I left there worrying about where this guy was going to sleep since it has been very cold, 27 degrees at night here. Hey, this is Vegas and he only had a light coat on. I kinda wished that I would have given him the coat off my back but I didn't.
Well, this morning Beck and I went to the local Starschmucks for a bite. Beck pointed out the same guy sitting in a corner sipping a cup of coffee. You could see people looking at him on the sly. After Beck and I finsihed our over priced muffins we decided to walk over to Mickey D's next door and get a gift card for him. I got a card and headed back over to "bucks". As I walked up to this less fortunate person he looked at me with that "do I know you look". "Hello. Do you remember me from last night?" His eyes lit up again and he nodded vigorously. "I didn't get your name last night. What's your name?" He stated his name was David. "Well, David, I just wanted to give you this for Christmas." I pulled out the gift card and handed it to him.
David just looked and me and said thank you the best he could. He was trying hard not to cry. I wished him and Merry Christmas and turned around and faced a packed Starbucks just staring at me like I was nuts. I walked out with my head held high and feeling like I had really made a difference in someone's life. At least David could have a hot meal a day for the a week or so. The look on everyone's face in the place was a great bonus.
I am not sharing this story to make myself look good or to try and be someone that I am not. Seeing that poor guy during the Christmas season made me realize what I what I have and how lucky I have been in my life. I guess the point is that even if we don't feel like things are going well for us at the moment we still need to remember that we are lucky to have what we do.
David doesn't have loved ones to share this season with or eat dinner with. The three of us...no...the FOUR of us all have people to share Christmas with.
007...I may not like what you have done but you are still in my heart. If you want in the blog again then let me know.
Take it easy guys and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Mike
