Halloween or Lamoween?

Caleb had his 2-month shots today. That wasn't fun. Poor guy, he's got two big big band-aids on his (Virginia Ham) thighs and he's been fussy all evening.

He's wearing a Batman onesy. His first costume, ZZ says, but I think that most baby clothes are costumes. Costumes that make him look like a puppy, or an All-Star, or a Choo-Choo Train Conductor, or any of the other dozens of STUPID STUPID outfits they make for babies. He just happens to be dressed like Batman tonight.

Double O is coming over to baby sit for 4 hours. I haven't SEEN Double O in about 6 weeks and I kinda feel like I'm just using him. Oh well, so I'm using him. But I would really like to go bike riding with him again soon.

8 inches of snow on the ground. Double O is almost late. That date-steak is taunting me. It's out there somewhere, just a few miles away, sandwhiched between two pieces of wax paper and flanked by two other juicey pink pieces of sultry meat. Having this baby really puts date-night on his terms. We'll just have to be more reseptive to delayed gratification.

Peace and Love,
Mungo

5-2

Go COLTS! Ya! Now that was an exciting game. Looks like the AFC West is all tied up at 5-2. When the Broncos and the Chargers face each other in week 11, I predict the two teams will both be sitting at 7-2 and the outcome of that game will be extremely meaningful.

We got 6 inches of snow today. Woo woo!

Peace and Love,
Mungo

PS, (go Colts)

Babies, Football, and One Maybe Inch

ZZ and I wish Aimee the best of luck. We also wish you, ST, and you, Beck, our best as well. I hope everything goes as well as you hope.

Our baby is making some noise back there in his crib. He's about to wake up, I should get things ready.

Sunday:
Saint Louis at San Diego
Indianapolis at Denver
GOOD GAMES. CAN'T WAIT.

Maybe, just maybe, we'll see an inch of snow fall this evening. Tomorrow, another maybe inch.

Peace and Love,
Mungo

2 Weeks and Counting

3 Nov is the day and it looks like Aimee just might make it that long. There were a couple of tense moments when she was in the hospital with contractions 3 minutes apart.

It turns out that she had a bad bladder infection and that was making her uterus pissed off. All is well now and we are on track.

I will keep you guys updated as much as I can.

Busy Weekend

Man, this has been a busy weekend! Chase's room is painted and decorated. His crib and dresser are in there as well. It looks sweet. I will put a small video and some pics on the web sometime this week.

We hung a cabinet above our toilet to hold the TP.

And finally we moved Beck's office. This was actually done before doing Chase's room since her office IS his bedroom.

I am tired and I am sure to be sore in the morning.

NFL Picks

Each week I've picked who I think will win which games. Today is shaping up to be my worst week of picks ever.

I'm watching the Minnesota/Seattle game on Fox. I'm a big Vikings fan, but even more than that, I am a CHARGERS FAN. Unfortunately, they were knocked for a loss by the Chiefs earlier today, and the Broncs have the Browns today. So.... looks like the Chargers are going to fall a game and a half back behind in the division.

Beck: it's on.

Forecast Calls for Rain/Snow/Gloom

Of course, on my days off, as has been the tradition of the entire year thus far, speciffically the nicer moments of summer, we have had the worst snaps of weather. While, conversely, while I am at work, Underground, remember, the sun does shine and the poofy cute clouds do smile sweetly down up on us. Tomorrow, a work day, will be the only day of sunshine within ten days and I will be at work. Fri, Sat, Sun, my three day break this week, will see RAIN SNOW and GLOOM.

DFW's 10th Anniversary Edition of "Infinite Jest" + New Essay "Federer as a Religious Experiance"

I love David Foster Wallace. I first disovered his 1996 novel Infinite Jest while browsing the shelves of The City of Panama City City Library (not kidding, actual name of the library) for the longest book possible. I pulled it off the shelf, read the first two pages and fell in love with a man for the first time. Er...

My resolve disolved a few days later and I did not finish the ardous task of reading Infinite Jest cover to cover. It collected no dust, either, for it was buried deep beneath some dishevlement of my apartment and when discovered months later, ha ha, big joke, I owed a late fee to the CoPCCL. I turned then to The Broom of the System and The Girl With Curious Hair. Loved those novels. Equally enthralling, but shorter and a bit less complex. I am now, only at the advent of the release of the 10th Anniversary edition of Infinite Jest, returning to the book that started it all. I am a quarter of the way through and I feel already as if I have done all the reading I needed to do all year. (Although, I am also reading book #4 of Jack Kerouac's Dulouz Legend: "The Vanity of Dulouz" and "100 Questions All First Time Homebuyers Should Ask.")

In the few minutes of idle time I had at work today, I discovered that David Foster Wallace as written a new essay (the form of writing he has, of late, been exclusively undertaking) entitled Federer as a Religious Experiance that was published in the New York Times. Whether you enjoy the sport of Tennis or not, you ought to take the time it takes to read this essay.

Okay, gotta go Track. I'm on the schedule for the last hour. I have to go relieve a guy with crutches.

peace and love,

With Winter Coming...

With the winter approaching fast (frosty windows and termination dust are both crusting up our worlds), ZZ and I are preparing for the new season in vastly different ways.

I am searching for used ice skates because I'd like to learn how to skate this year. I am on the look out for smokin deals on snowboarding gear because I'd like ZZ and I do that together. I'm also budgeting for a good set of snow tires for the Subaru. Somewhere in our expenses we also need to set aside some money to fix the front end of the Saturn. It's dying fast. Lastly, I'm drawing up a good solid work-out plan for ZZ and I to take on this winter so we don't get all flabby in the cold lazy months. These are the things that I'm doing to prepare for winter.

ZZ, on the other hand, is adimit about the denial of winter's approach and refuses to look forward. I talk about winter and her face goes all Five-Year-Old-That-Hates-Vegetables... shaking her head and grimacing.

"But, ZZ," I plead with her, "at some point, you'll want to hit the slopes! You love snowboarding!"

"No! I said no! Don't even LOOK at the snow!"

Ahh....
Peace and Love,

Utah, ATV's, Snow, DJ's

Utah was an absolute blast this past weekend. As we drove to UT it was raining and nasty. We woke up Saturday morning to perfectly blue skies and very chilly temps.

Our riding on Sat took us up to about 11,900 feet and we got to play in the snow with our wheelers. The snow was a ton of fun and I even had to use my winch to get Eddie out of a snow drift. Ashlee and Beck loved it as well.

At about the half way point in our ride one of the ATV's had something go wrong with the transmisson so we ended up towing and slowly driving it back (25 miles). It was still a blast. Luckily we had brought our extra quad so we could still go riding on Sunday.

For Sunday's ride we stayed at a little lower elevation (9500 ft and lower). We had a blast even though it was a in the 40's.

So...we were all sitting at Prospectors Cafe for breakfast on Monday morning before heading home. There was this couple in there eating and I thought the guy looked familiar. I didn't think anything of it since Marysvale is a town of about 400 people and the probability of seeing someone that I know is very remote. We started chatting with them and it turns out they are from Vegas as well (that's not why he looked familiar). During the conversation they mentioned that they lived in AK previously. I asked when they were up there. It turns out that Jody was in the Air Force and stationed at Elmendorf from 1998 to 2001 and Billy was the DJ at Chilkoot Charlies! Go figure. I knew that he looked familiar but I couldn't place him since I was drunk every time I saw him!! HA!

What a freaking small world. Oh yeah, and to top it off they live about 5 miles from us and love to ride quads. Weird.

Catching up...

Since the last time I blogged...

Eddie came down to visit for a quick weekend and that was awesome. No, we didn't do anything crazy but we got to hang out and play some Settlers Of Catan (board game that rocks). I convinced him to change the oil in his brand new truck at my place intead of letting Dodge do it. Yeah, that was dumb. Well, it wouldn't have been dumb if I had the correct tool for taking the oil filter off! Once we went to the auto parts place and bought the tool, all was well in the world again.

We are getting ready to head up to Marysvale, UT tomorrow for a 3 day weekend of riding. Yes, Eddie is meeting us there so I am sure we will have fun. The place that we are staying is a log cabin on 8 acres of land. It's a 3 bedroom with two huge decks and a hot tub. The hot tub will be great after a day of riding and with the night temps hitting 32 degrees. I work a half day tomorrow then we are outta here! I am a little worried about the drive up since there are flash flood watches all day tomorrow. The weekend weather should be nice though.

We are very excited about Chase coming into the world. His arrival is still set for Nov 3 as long as everything goes well. My Mom is coming out on Oct 16 to visit and help us out until Jan 1. That will be nice to have the help and she will enjoy getting away from the cold MN winter (or at least some of it).

I will post pictures of our trip. You can check out the pics from our Labor Day trip at wachel.net.

Ma & Pa

My mother and father flew in from Iowa last night. We stayed up late looking at pictures and talking. This morning we're watching the Twins and the A's in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. I'm getting ganged up on here. ZZ and my folks have been dogging me out for the last 12 hours. We're having lots of fun.

Peace and Love,
Mungo
